Born in Las Vegas, Tomar Williams grew up performing in a band called Sixx AM with his parents and six siblings. They toured the Chitlin Circuit, a group of venues known for hosting blues and soul acts. The band played Antone’s when they visited Austin for the first time in 1986, and the city’s opportunities for musicians floored them.

Soon after, the family moved to the capital city, and Williams and his brother Salih began focusing on making music of their own. Eventually both were playing in Latasha Lee and the BlackTies, producing music out of a home studio for Houston rap heroes Paul Wall and Big Moe, and signing with Universal as a production team. Although Williams eased up on music after he got married and started a family, his wife encouraged him to follow his own muse rather than producing. Enter the FCs.
