The claim of “diversity” has been thrown around so much when we talk about Houston that it’s almost lost all its meaning. It’s become a buzz word, a marketing angle, a lazy descriptor.

But it also remains truer than ever, particularly in Houston’s music scene. I would stack our city, with 100-percent confidence, against anywhere else when it comes to weirdly wonderful, terrifically talented musicians. Houston is rap, to be sure. And rock remains steadfast. But there’s so much in between, from synth-pop to shoegaze to R&B.
